About Leash and Explore
Mac
Sadly, Mac died in late 2023 from CCD. He got very sick very quickly, and when we said goodbye to him in October'23, we had to turn our lives upside down to figure out what was next for us.
Very quickly we started talking about what we would have done differently if we had another dog who had big feelings like Mac. And on that list was finding out and knowing ahead of time adventures, walks and place to stay to take reactive dogs on. And so - Leash and Explore was born.
Hi! We're Ellie and Hannah and we run Leash and Explore, a travel blog for reactive dog guardians who want to explore the world with their unconventional furry friends.
We rescued our dog, Mac, in 2021 from the RSPCA in the UK. He was from a neglect case and we very quickly found he had a whole host of big feelings about a lot of different things. From people and dogs, to livestock and small animals - to separation anxiety, travel sickness, noise phobia - you name it, he had it.
But despite all those things, we made a promise to each other, and him - that we would adventure and enjoy our life together as much as we could. We went on many adventures up and down the UK, and created some of the most special memories we will ever have with Mac.
Erika
We now have a foster staying with us, Erika, who is a Spanish Galgo. She's an ex hunting dog and is finding out where she fits in the world.
Though she isn't reactive to the extreme of Mac, she is a little unsure of new people, places and particularly doesn't like dogs getting in her space.
So finding quiet, peaceful walks, adventures and accommodation to help her adjust to the world is our priority!

When we brought Mac home, Hannah turned her love of drawing and dogs into a wonderful online community where she does custom illustrated commissions of your pet. She's done hundereds of pets from all of the world (lizards and horses included!) and has now launched a merch line, featured on podcasts, created a blog and a published a book!
